When I first came to sixth grade, I did not like reading that much at all. Now, It is still not my favorite or best subject, but I like it a whole lot better. This year, I started out with small novels. Now, I am reading way bigger ones. I have found out that I like books about fairy tales, north face denali fleece, mysteries, and adventure books the best.
I have really improved my reading this year; more than any other year. I used to read very, VERY slow, but now, I am not the fastest, but I am a lot faster than I was before. This was the best reading year ever.
I have grown more as a reader. I have been reading more at home and I'm faster at reading. I have learned that I can read really hard words that I have never seen before. A 3-book series made me read faster than before. Also a 13-book series showed me that reading is fun north face denali jackets . All the 300 page books I read shows a big change in my reading because I used to read 150 pages long books.
I've learned that I like really long books that are adventure books. It used to take me 9 days to read a 300 page book, but now it takes me about 7 days to finish a 300 page book. I have read 8 300 page books in the 6th grade.
This year when I first started reading I was not very good at reading, and I thought reading was boring. But now I like reading and I am very good at it. Books are fun to read, and if there is a movie, the book is always better. The books I like to read are action, mysteries, cheap north face, funny, amazing and sometimes even biographies.
The one book that I think helped my reading is probably The Evil Genius. The Evil Genius was a big book to read; there were also some math equations in it that I didn't understand, but I liked that book a lot. I am waiting to see if I can find the second book called The Genius Squad. I haven't seen it anywhere yet.
I have read about 12 books this year. That is a improvement from last year. I feel very strong about reading now. I also understand more that I read than I did before.
After that, we went to go see what a dorm was like. I loved the dorm. It was nicely decorated and it was pretty cute! I thought it was pretty cool!
Finally, we walked back to meet the buses! cheap the north face. That was quite a crazy day and I'm glad I made it throughout the day.
I have had a cellular device for several years. The cellular device is also known as a cell phone. The cell phone has a wireless chip that is in it and then it transfers calls to another cell phone. I was talking to my mom about cell phones and she said that a long time ago, there was a phone called the brick. The brick was a phone that was actually the size of a brick and you had to put it into your bag and not your pocket. Now cell phones are tiny and are more like the size of mouse. Now days they have cell phones that flip, slide, north face denali jackets, and rotate. Most of the phones that you would have now would be a full keyboard phone. I know this sounds kind of strange but instead of people calling, they would text another person. I know what you're thinking, (This is crazy! How can they do this! Why don't they just call!)
I think that sending messages to another person is more convenient because if that other person is in a meting then you can just message them instead of calling them and interrupting them in their meeting.
Today was just like any ordinary day we did math and a math test then we had an assembly we were called down to see the real Halem Globetrotters and every one was so existed that the whole student body went crazy and of course some of the sixth graders were civilized and some weren't there was only one of them but his name was Dizzy number two he was having kids come up and be letters in the word CHEER it was funny;north face denali, they were tossing around the basketball and then everyone kept dropping it and to them when Dizzy did it is seemed so easy but it wasn't and he did really cool tricks and then he had to go and he says he will be there at a game, I wonder if they play for laughs and it is just a joke or is it real and they are just having fun I don't know.
This year, we have been reading a novel of our choice for about thirty minutes every day. So far, I have read eleven books. Eleven novels, to be exact.
On Friday afternoon Jenna, and Tana spent the night. We did some crazy things. Jenna and Tana were playing just dance on the Wii. It was really fun and they looked weird too. The next day Saturday, to be exact, was softball tryouts. I was #22 in the line. I got done early so I got to stay and help. Jenna got hungry so she left the gym to go to the vending machine. It was a tiring day. When we got back we went for a walk and then sadly, north face denali, I broke my phone. :( I was just walking and then it just randomly broke. It was very disappointing.
On Sunday I went to the Harlem Globetrotters game. It was a fake game, but it was funny. At the game I saw Rose and some other people. The Globetrotters were playing "The Washington Generals". When I was sitting with Rose we got water all over us. They also pulled off one of the other guys whole uniform. It was really funny and I got my ball signed by all of the players.
After the game, Rose went home with me and we went to various different places. My mom took us to Safeway, Radio Shack, AT&T, and Walmart. It was really fun until Rose left at like 7. This is what happened in my crazy messed up week.
Last week, cheap north face, my class went to the University Of Alaska Fairbanks! I thought it was really fun! There was only two things I didn't like about that field trip! I didn't feel so good because of my allergies! I have been outside too much. I also didn't like how the lunch room was so crowded. There was way too much people in there. Lots of kids from all different school. I had a headache just walking around. I did enjoy the food though!
I had some french fries and I had some ice cream. I got the last scoop before the ice cream machine broke down! I got signatures from...some people. I didn't really know who they were; I just saw a lot of people getting their autographs, so I thought I would get in line to get them too!
Before that we were cutting open a cow heart! I felt really sick after that. north face denali. Plus I felt sick before that so that wasn't to much fun for me.
Then, we walked up this really steep hill. It seemed like forever but we finally made it to the top! We took a break on some benches then we started to walk again. We went to this building; then we entered a classroom! We learned about what kind of career we want when we grow up! I want to be a vet. There was all different kinds of careers that different people wanted. I was surprised.
The trails, like all trails at Burns Park are multi-use and the new sections will be about 6.2 miles long. The International Mountain Biking Association helped in laying out the trails about 2 years ago. I’ve seen some concern about the gravel at the beginning of the trail near the Boy Scout trail head expressed on forums.north face denali jackets. That section will only be .3 miles for some ADA access and to protect the start and finish of the trail. They hope to have the trails completed by May 7th which is Arkansas Trails Day. The Arkansas Trails Council expects to have big events in the park in conjunction with the statewide celebration.
“Much of the trail in Burns Park was put in back in the 60′s, 70′s and 80′s when we didn’t know much about trail building. With the new knowledge and techniques we have, and with IMBA helping so much in the layout, I think we are going to have a spectacular multiuse trail system in Burns Park that will be readily available to the metro area”, said Turner. The trails will be open to mountain bikers, hikers and equestrians.
The Central Arkansas Master Naturalists and North Little Rock Parks are doing the work on the trails. The trail is being cut by Parks maintenance crews using the same machines as used on the LoViT and other cheap north face. Trail workers will then go behind to hand groom the tread which is expected to be 24″ wide.
You may have read here that I’ve been doing some trail work out at Pinnacle Mountain State Park. The background is that a few of us got together with the Park a couple of years ago and dotted the proper “i’s” and crossed the appropriate “t’s” and they allowed us to design and build a couple of mountain bike trails, the Jackfork (intermediate/advanced) and the Rabbit Ridge trails (easy). We opened them officially last October as part of the International Mountain Biking Association’s “Take A Kid Mountain Biking Day.”
Part of the agreement was that we would also maintain the trails once they were built. This keeps us doing something for the trails 3 or 4 times a month.north face denali jackets. The trail doesn’t really need much maintenance but we do like to make improvements, getting rid of rocks that seem to grow in the worst possible spots, smoothing out a turn here and there and a little pruning so no one puts an eye out. The rocks are the real work so we have taken to carrying a 10 lb sledgehammer as we work the trails.
Well now it seems that Competitive Cyclist in North Little Rock has bought it’s first actual bike brand, Merlin. Although for now the bikes won’t be manufactured here it is still a move for Arkansas into the world cycling market. A good story is available in Arkansas Business today.north face denali jackets, This is such a cool place!
This past Saturday, Lisa and I went out to do a little mountain biking at Burns Park in North Little Rock. This is an old haunt of mine. While training for a 100 mile mountain bike race a few years back, I pretty much lived out there. I knew the trails like the back of my hand. I’ve also competed in a couple of adventure races through the park and one off-road triathlon. I still road bike through the area on a regular bases and get out on the mountain bike trails as an alternative to the new trails at Pinnacle Mountain State Park (when I need a little change of scenery).
This Saturday was a perfect day to be on the trails.north face denali. The 6-hour race at Cedar Glades in Hot Springs had pulled most of the area cyclists out of the Little Rock/North Little Rock for the day and we had the trails pretty much to ourselves. Over the last couple of years the park/volunteers have made some great changes to the trails, adding some mileage, nice flowy stuff and the short track area is a blast. As we rode along enjoying the day I noticed some newer changes. As a trail builder I think I’ve developed an eye for spotting new trail flags (ribbon tied to trees to mark planned trails) in the woods. After crossing several new trail cuts we finally decided to check one of the “new” trails out. Here is my word of warning, if you are not a confident mountain biker I don’t recommend doing this. New,cheap north face, unfinished trail can be treacherous.
I immediately fell in love with this new section that allowed for a wonderfully done switchback up a hill that has a notoriously worn out climb. I’m really looking forward to riding the rest of the new trails. When I got back home I contacted the person that I felt might be responsible for the new trails, Trail builder and Arkansas Naturalist, Bert Turner to see if he was the culprit and to get more information. Bert sent me some great information.
I mentioned earlier that one of the reasons for picking this park on this weekend was food. They had scheduled a dutch oven workshop that would last through lunch. The girls had signed up to participate in this while I volunteered for camera duty. The park interpreter met everyone at one of the pavilions and already had the coals going. Each of three tables in the pavilion had a pile of ingredients on them. After a quick orientation she had the group split up and commence to mixing, north face cheap, stirring and getting to know each other.
The meal would consist of chili, sweet corn bread and apple cobbler. I was assured that the cooler sitting by the door had some ice cream in it also. My lunch date was set.
The diverse group all got along well. We had at least three generations represented. I enjoyed watching a grandmother as she watched her grandsons try their hand at making the corn bread. By the end she was pretty much doing it. Lucky us. :)
Lisa and McKenna got on the cobbler detail. This is good as I now know, north face denali, they can make a good cobbler.
Once all the food started cooking we were all able to stand around and chat. Interesting people. This is one of the wonderful things about attending these programs, you get to meet a lot of other people and be a part of their memories as they become a part of yours.
Suddenly, with a flourish, the food was ready. I held back allowing the cooks to fill plates first. Please let there be enough cobbler! I got my chili, my sweet corn bread, and yes, apple cobbler with a scoop of ice cream on top. I had a happy tummy.
We helped clean up. Even the boys learned the proper technique for cleaning the cast iron (cheap north face). Soon we were heading back to the campground getting ready for the next part of our adventure, in Part 2, Let’s see another park today.
Last month I wrote an article for Arkansas Abroad about how The Natural State is beginning to be known as a destination spot not only for biking (road and mountain) but also for the distribution and purchasing of bicycles and parts. I also wrote an article on this blog about a new local bike shop in Little Rock.
